Thrive Young

A Structured Hypnotherapy Programme for Young People Navigating School Life

About Thrive Young

Thrive Young is a structured, five-session hypnotherapy programme designed specifically for young people aged 10–16 who are navigating the challenges of school life  particularly the significant transition from primary to secondary school.
The programme was created to give children and teenagers something that is rarely available to them: a clear, safe, professionally guided process that helps them understand their own mind, build confidence, develop real social resilience, and face school life with genuine inner strength.
Unlike traditional one-off therapy sessions, Thrive Young is structured and progressive. Parents and children know exactly what each session covers, what to expect, and what the outcomes will be. Every session builds on the last, creating lasting change rather than temporary relief.

Who Is This Programme For?

Thrive Young is designed for young people who are experiencing any of the following:
School & Social Challenges

Friendship difficulties, feeling left out or different, struggling to fit in, social anxiety, fear of speaking up in class, difficulty adjusting to secondary school.

Low self-esteem, negative self-talk, people-pleasing, fear of failure, comparing themselves to others, imposter feelings at school.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

Sports performance anxiety, fear of exams, difficulty concentrating, academic pressure, procrastination driven by fear.

A note from the therapist

My own daughter navigated the challenges of friendships and fitting in across both primary and secondary school. I watched her struggle — and I watched her come through stronger and more herself than before. That experience is woven into every part of this programme. Thrive Young is built on the understanding that young people have everything they need inside them. Our job is simply to help them access it.

What to Expect

Thrive Young runs across five sessions of approximately 60 minutes each. Sessions can be delivered in person or online, and are structured progressively so each session builds naturally on the last.
For Parents

A brief check-in at the start of the first session and a closing consultation at the end of the programme. You will always know what was covered. Your child’s privacy within sessions is respected — this is what allows the work to go deep.

Each session has a clear theme and purpose. You will never be pushed into anything. The process is collaborative, creative and often surprisingly enjoyable. You will leave each session with something practical to take into your week.

Each session below is described in full including content, expected outcomes, and the takeaway your child will leave with.

S1 Safety, Self & Understanding the Mind

Building the foundation

The first session is about connection — making your child feel safe, heard, and understood, while giving them an age-appropriate introduction to how their mind works. We explore what’s been happening in their world, demystify anxiety and worry in language they can genuinely relate to, and introduce the idea that their mind is a powerful tool they can learn to use.

  • Parent consultation (15 mins) sharing background, concerns and goals
  • Child rapport building, finding out about them, what they love, how they see the world
  • Introduction to how the mind works (age-appropriate, fun, engaging), including the conscious and subconscious mind
  • First experience of hypnotherapy  relaxation, safety, and releasing the grip of worry
  • Identifying their inner strengths — what’s already working well
  • Session outcome:

Child feels comfortable, safe and curious about the process, and has a language for their feelings. Parent feels heard and confident.

    Takeaway:

A simple ‘safe place’ visualisation they can use at home whenever they need calm.

    S2 Belonging & Identity

    Finding your place

The heart of the programme. This session goes directly to the core issues of friendship, fitting in, feeling different, and navigating the social landscape of a new school environment.

  • Exploring their social world  friendships, groups, where they feel they belong
  • The pressure to fit in vs. the power of being themselves
  • Working through specific friendship challenges or social anxiety
  • Building a clear, positive sense of identity — ‘who I actually am’
  • deep work on belonging, self-acceptance, social confidence.
  • Session outcome: Child has a stronger, clearer sense of self and feels less at the mercy of other people’s opinions.

Takeaway: A personal values card — 3 things that matter most to them, in their own words.

    S3 Confidence & Courage

    Showing up in new spaces

  • Secondary school brings new pressures — bigger classrooms, more teachers, higher expectations, and the need to speak up.
  • This session builds the confidence to meet those demands.
  • Exploring the new school environment — what feels hard and what feels possible
  • Speaking up, asking for help, putting yourself forward
  • Dealing with academic pressure and changes in workload
  • Reframing mistakes as part of learning, not evidence of failure
  • Hypnotherapy — confidence anchoring, future self projection into school scenarios
  • Session outcome:

Child approaches school challenges with more courage and less fear of getting things wrong.

    Takeaway:

A personal confidence anchor  a physical gesture linked to a feeling of confidence they can use anytime.

    S4 Resilience Toolkit

    Tools for life

This session hands ownership to the child. They learn practical, evidence-based techniques they can use independently so they are resourced long after the programme ends.

  • Review and consolidation of what has shifted so far
  • Teaching self-hypnosis — a skill for life
  • Breathing and grounding techniques for difficult moments
  • How to talk to themselves kindly — inner voice work
  • Creating their personal resilience toolkit — their go-to strategies
  • Session outcome:

Child feels proud, resourced and genuinely excited about their future.

    Takeaway:

A Thrive Young certificate and a letter to their future self, written during the session.

    S5 Future Self

    Stepping into who you’re becoming

The final session is a celebration and a forward launch. We consolidate all the work, acknowledge how far they have come, and set a compelling vision for who they are becoming.

  • Celebrating growth — reflecting on the journey from session one Future self
  • hypnotherapy — a vivid, positive projection into their future
  • Setting intentions for the next chapter
  • Parent closing consultation (15 mins) — sharing progress and next steps
  • Graduation moment — acknowledging their courage and commitment
  • Session outcome: Child feels proud, resourced and genuinely excited about their future.
Takeaway: A Thrive Young certificate and a letter to their future self, written during the session.
